Eye Tracking - A Behaviour Analysis Tool
If you are not using Eye Tracking as a real time user behaviour analysis tool, surely you are missing one important way to enhance the visitor experience and for an e-commerce site this can be a boon if used effectively.
Sample data collected by using visual location ( screen point) aids of net surfers, users in a lab or measurable observatory, can lead to amazing stats and can just point out what is working and what exactly is not working for you.
Example here from enquiroresearch.com shows the heat maps mechanism for what visitors prefer ( and obviously click) on popular search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.
The area which is seen mostly is a triangular shape and also known as "Golden Triangle". Golden Triangle shows why Organic listing is more important for visitors than the paid one !!
The next thing is analysis of the data, using the prime locations of heatmaps and then optimizing the website for the most advantages.
Experience may differ as per demography, season and recognition of websites but more data you collect, more closer you reach to a perfect trouble shooting stance.

Rediff : Chat within Browser within Rediffmail
Rediff newly launched its inbuilt messenger in the mail service. In line with what we have seen as GMail is doing, Rediff also has a list of contacts with options to see who is online and all.
Fig 1. Shows the boxed application which opens by default as you enter the inbox.

This seems to be a setback for rediff bol ( the instant messaging tool) while giving more life to rediffmail and connecting users live.
A good ploy to adopt as rediff is being tracking the user activities from past but didnot take any intitiative like this one.
Fig 2. Shows actual chatting box which opens when you click on the person's id

competition is everywhere and is good for the online visitors and overall www.
All the best Rediff!!

Some Downtime notices ( Blogger and Cisco)
Some Downtime notices ( Blogger and Cisco)
Blogger.com Hit By Downtime:
Blogger.com was offline for an hour early Wednesday as Google's popular service encountered performance problems. Blogger is one of the oldest and largest blogging services, hosting several million free blogs. Google "apologized profusely" for the service interruption.
"Blogger and Blog*Spot had an unexpected outage for an hour this morning, starting around 7AM PDT," Google reported on its Blogger status page. "As of 8AM, all but a few blogs are working properly again." The company didn't offer any additional details on the cause of the outage. The Google search engine and other services were unaffected, as the outage appears to have been isolated to Blogger and blogspot.com.
Human Error Knocks Cisco Web Site Offline:
Human error was responsible for a data center electrical overload that knocked the Cisco Systems web site offline for about three hours Wednesday afternoon, the company said last night. The outage came as Cisco released four security advisories about vulnerabilities in its networking products, and left system administrators unable to access Cisco's support resources. The company was able to alert users through blogs.cisco.com, which is hosted on an another network.
"The issue occurred during preventative maintenance of one of our data centers when a human error caused an electrical overload on the systems," Cisco said in an update. "This caused Cisco.com and other applications to go down. Because of the severity of the overload, the redundancy measures in some of the applications and power systems were impacted as well, though the system did shut down as designed to protect the people and the equipment."
