How The Top Performing Brands Are Growing Fans On Facebook

Everyone looking for the Formula - How do the top performing brands become the top performers? Let me tell you for sure, They do not do magic and they are not born famous. In this article you will read how they have become what they are and how even you can achieve what they have:

1.    First and foremost it is essential to determine the key audiences which form the major communities of Facebook. There are three major audiences:

•    Joiners: they form the major percentage of audiences which can go as high as 83%. These people just join your community. Their participation ends here. Once they have joined, they forget about your community and do not put in any effort to promote it. Therefore as much as they look like they are vast in numbers, here’s a number-zero. That is what they are accountable for and you should not pay attention to them much.

•    Sharers: These people, though low in numbers (15%), they are much more active than the joiners and should be paid more attention. They share your posts, participate in your campaigns and make more and more people aware of your existence. The “friends of friends” metric is reached by them.

•    Advocates: these people are very low in number comparatively (1.5 %), but do not go into the numbers as these people make you who you are. They have the ability to make or break you. They do the sharers’ work and also convince other communities to join you.

2.    Constantly offer various ways to make your fans engage. This is possible by holding various campaigns, competitions and giving away free gifts. Maybe initially it will seem like a waste but later this stuff will make your brand gold.

3.    Tell them constantly which posts to follow, which links to follow and what questions to answer. This way the audience will know how to promote your brand in ways it will actually matter.

4.    It is really important to know which posts should be posted when. If you post extremely important stuff in a time where it does not matter at all (like posting about woolens in summers), your effort will go to a waste and people will stop looking forward to anything else you have to offer.

5.    People will not share as many advertisements and promotions as they will share a quiz especially the one which is more related to them for eg. A personality quiz. People want to hear about themselves and know about themselves. This makes them feel personal and special.

6.    Don’t just stick with Facebook. The more social media outlets, the better. Try Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Myspace, Youtube, Tumbir, Pinterest and even a blog. It is never enough. Your brand growth will take place in multiples if you use all of them. So there is basically no reason for you to avoid them.

Now that you know, how the top performing brands became who they are, follow all the tips religiously and smartly and your brand will surely gain the popularity it deserves.

Which is the Best PPC Platform – Google, Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter

There are many platforms on the internet that allow network marketers to use PPC or “Pay Per Click” as a marketing tool. These platforms help them to reach a greater audience. Each platform has its own benefits. The four biggest platforms where a person can carry out PPC campaigning are Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Twitter. One should keep in mind that all these platforms are very much similar but have different set of audiences. Of all the platforms Facebook and Twitter are the latest. Facebook list the sponsored ads on profile page of the people who have an account. Whenever a person clicks on any add it is displayed on the wall of all the people who are friends with that person. Thus a company that does PPC campaigning in Facebook can reach audience in an exponential manner.

Most of the people who use the internet are aware of Google Ad Words. Companies fight shoulder to shoulder with each other to make a place in Google’s Paid listings. They can spend any amount of money to make an appearance there. Whenever someone clicks on a Google Ads, the client has to pay a certain amount to the affiliate. Thus Google gives a certain share of the income received from the customer to the affiliate. One of the most common features of Google Ad words is PPC. Here you have to pay money per click. This much cheaper than many other forms of advertising and most effective as well.

Google is just behind the Facebook now in the Alexa ranking, but yet Facebook is the second choice after Google to carry out PPC campaigning. Using Facebook you can create good traffic for your website and generate sales and leads. You can use Facebook for the advertisement of any product and will see you business increasing in multiples in no time. You may create a fan page and then you have to supply the product information and upload a picture. In the next step you have to create your Facebook Adverts which is just a click away, and then you decide how much you are going to spend in a day for your ads to flash. You may easily choose the demographics of the target audience for your adverts.

LinkedIn enables you to target your PPC campaigning demographically as well. You can target a specific age group, profession, industry or geographical region. It has the feature of both CPM and CPC advertisements. Whenever you go for PPC campaign in LinkedIn you should keep in mind to super target your advertisement. Twitter is also gaining immense popularity throughout the world. It is a micro-blogging site and also has social networking features. It can also effectively used for PPC campaigning.

It has been seen that Google and Facebook has a larger audience than any other site. But before investing on a PPC campaign you should keep some factors in mind. You should consider the return on investment. It has been observed that Google Ad Words has the highest return on investment when compared to any other PPC platform. It also has a large distribution network and Facebook is closely following it. If you go with Google Ad Words your ads will be shown on the search results of Google search result page. So it is better to choose the best PPC platform depending on your need and target audience.

Some ways by which a person or organization can use this virtual platform effectively:

•    It should be always remembered that things not going to work if someone simply opens up an account in a social network platform. The business or person has to continuously keep on posting information about the product or service. This will help retain the audience. Their mind will be also occupied with the thought of the product or service. If the audience does not get new content regularly, they will start luring away. If the marketer does not have time to do all this things, he can employ a social media consultant or even employ someone to do it for him.

Why Social Media is Need Of The Hour

Social Media has become a most popular “technical jargon” these days. The combination word connects Social life with media (marketing), which includes activities and technologies that enable the people to share their ideas and experiences with each other. People also get a lot of information from these social media sites. The actual meaning that lies behind the term is that “It is a systematic process of integrating social interaction with technology”. It also involves words, audio, pictures and video which are constructed in a proper manner. This can be appropriately termed as UGC or user generated content. The audio and video that are found in YouTube is an example of user generated content.

Social Media exists in various forms. It includes videos, images, blogs, online forums and wikis. Some of the technologies that lie behind social media are listed below:

•    Social Networks              (Facebook, Google Plus)
•    Blogging                (Word Press, Blogger, Tumblr)
•    Micro Blogging            (Twitter, Google Buzz)
•    Photo sharing                (Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr)
•    Instant Messengers            (Yahoo, G talk, MSN, Whatapp, BBM)
•    Video sharing                (YouTube, Metacafe )

The list can take few pages if we mention each and every portal of Social Media will be a big one if every technology is mentioned. The list of applications of social media will also be a big one. Facebook and MySpace are social networking sites, Flickr is used for sharing photos while YouTube enables a person to share videos effectively and Twitter facilitates networking and micro-blogging.

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

Another term that occupies a significant part of Social Media is Social Media Marketing. It uses the power of social media network to promote a service, content or product. Social media can help you make a strong position in the marketplace if used effectively.

Many marketing professionals are not much aware about social media marketing because they are unable to control the social networks. If a person masters the basics of SMM, he can use its power for corporate branding or reputation management.

Why is social media becoming so popular?

Social media enables a person to reach out and connect to a large number of people with the help of technology. New features are added to social media everyday making it more and more powerful. It can help a start up business to reach a vast audience in no time. The cost incurred in doing the publicity is also very nominal.

Million Dollar Question: PPC v/s SEO – Which is better?

PPC is the acronym for “Pay Per Click”. It is type of search engine marketing tool which has gained immense popularity recently. This has given rise to a debate - Which is a better option, SEO or PPC? Which one of them will yield better search results? Some of the experts of the web suggest that a combination of both the techniques should be used to get good results. The webmasters who are new to online marketing techniques suffer from a lot of confusion. A lot of questions go on in their mind and most of them are still unanswered. To answers the questions correctly, we should take a look at the pros and cons of both of the techniques.

The advantages and disadvantages of Search Engine Optimization are:
The most attractive thing about SEO is that you don't have to pay a single penny from your pocket in order to get listed in search result pages. The search engine does not charge you anything when you carry out SEO. To improve the quality of your website and get it optimized you have to simply follow some techniques, which can be done in many ways. The most important thing is to use good quality and informative content in the web pages of your website. If user comes on your website and spends time to read the genuine information, the value of your webpage increases. And once Google thinks that this web page is providing relevant information with some keyword, your website will be ranked high. The search engine spiders will also find it easy to scan through the website. The results will last for a very long period. The website will appear at the top of search engine results for a longer amount of time in the future.

Now talking about the negative side of SEO, the SEO techniques are very time consuming. There are many search engines that use a set of filters. These filters take such parameters like age of the website and age of the domain into consideration while carrying out the optimization process. So you have to wait patiently before you start seeing the actual results.

Pros and cons of PPC:

PPC is a new technique that is being adopted by most of the webmasters involved in online marketing if they want to get fast results. PPC is a bidding system, where you have to bid against other websites which are of similar type and are running PPC campaign. Like this you can get to the top of search page results that shows paid listings. For example you have a website for “e-books”. You have to place your bid for the keyword “e-book” so that your website appears on the top of the search result whenever someone searches using that particular keyword. Your relative position on the page will be decided depending on the amount you are willing to pay with respect to your fellow bidders. One thing you should keep in mind is that PPC campaigns are very tough to maintain.

So it is wise to carry out PPC for a very short time period and continue with SEO at the back end. Adopting both the strategies will help you get good results in the long run.

Top 10 SEO Myths: An expounded overview

Birth of internet and the subsequent advent of online marketing have spawned varieties of illusions pertaining to the rankings of the website in the search engine listings.  There are scores of organizations affirming the customers about the authenticity to increase the visibility of the website within a short stipulated time period; however these stories should be taken with a pinch of salt. Demolishing the notion, experts opine that search strategies vary depending on the requirements and specifications of the clients. There is no magic wand which could accomplish the task in a jiffy, on the contrary it is extremely difficult to predict how the website would fair on those keywords which are niche and extremely competitive.  As a part of the Top 10 SEO Myths, achieving the number one ranking could be attributed to immeasurable factors like the quality of the products and services along with expertise of the SEO professionals responsible for enhancing the rankings. One might venture into a perpetual abyss dead ring to the boundless avalanche of perturbation due to the expurgated task of achieving the position among the highest echelons of the search engine.

Topmost page rank is not the dazzling peak of ecstasy:
Webmasters are gung ho about the page ranking with the additive about its usefulness in the enhancement of the web traffic; however it’s only the tip of an iceberg because there are plethoras of other factors affecting the popularity of a particular website and eventual enhancement of business.

Google certifications: Essential criteria for culling the vendor
It is a complete misnomer propagated by certain companies to attract the customers whilst as if they are authorized by the Google to be the best in the SEO industry. A candid admission by the experts states that there are no comparable accreditations from the Google manifesting the quality of the company, so any claims are akin to building castles in the thin air.

The bogie of Meta tags
An oft repeated request from the clients about the Meta tag optimization is a common phenomenon however the irony of the fact stipulates that Google has discarded the Meta tags as the parameter to index the pages. There is a distinct shift in the paradigm in recent times from the search engine giant since the algorithm focuses more on the user experience than any other criterion when they visit the website.

Conning the Search engines to claim the highest rankings
Top 10 SEO Myths include the lure of tricking the prominent search engines in assigning the top ranks to the website. Initially, it might work by introducing some of the keywords in disguise however the strategy would backfire if the plot is unraveled by the search engines. It would result in the blanket ban for the site and cause potential damages to the business from long term perspective since the link would be discarded by the crawlers for indexing. Organic SEO is the only saving grace for the users to obtain high rankings in the future.

Keywords are the magic key to success:
Elders stated in the past “There is no shortcut way to success” and it is an unerring truth in SEO industry eliminating all the misconceptions in the process. Rebuking the Top 10 SEO Myths, one should focus on content instead of over peppering the articles with requisite keywords.

Google AdWords power the rankings
In spite of the incessant denials by the Google about the direct effect of the Google AdWords on the organic search engine listings, the myth never seems to die away. More Google Ad Words would result in enhanced click-through which in turn will drive the traffic over a period of time.

Landing Page obsession:
Instead of focusing on optimizing the landing page, one of the Top 10 SEO Myths, a company should devote equal attention to all the pages in a site, thereby improving the rankings.

SEO project for a site is unrepeatable:
Akin to the conventional marketing, SEO doesn’t end for a particular website and requires continuous innovations from the experts to boost the online visibility of the clients.

Direct correlation between the rankings and the Earnings:
Capturing the clicks and increasing the revenue is the primary motive and not the elusive rankings which might not guarantee sustained earnings.

Exploring Google Updates - Part I

On a mission to explore Google's mystery updates, here is my first post of a complete series planned. (starting with January'11, will cover a snapshot - highlights for the earlier ones soon)

Author or Content Authority update (Jan'11)

This Google update was intended to attribute the 'real' author of a document and penalize the copycats or scrapers. This algo change has approximately affected 2% of the search query volume.

Farmer Update - Further known as Panda 1.0 (Started Feb'11)

This major update which caused many sites to go dark in terms of traffic and indexing in Google SERP aimed at removing 'low quality' sites. The Name 'Panda' was given after Google Engineer Navneet Panda.
Similar to what Farmer does to remove the weeds from his farm, Google Panda update removes spammy and low quality sites from his index ( with a penality). First human testers were employed to see and analyze patterns for 'high quality' sites - those who are useful and filter out those who are of 'low quality' where they won't be interested to come back again.
Basis the pattern, unique content and relevancy a search algo update was made to 'tag' sites and sections as high value or low value. Rest is how to treat this was an easy task :)
Panda is also known as a 'Freshness' update giving more importance to unique and consistently updated content. Tailormade for Bloggers!

Panda 2.0 (Apr'11)
Unlike the previous update (Panda 1.0), this update was targeted toward 'thin affiliate sites'. Thin affiliate sites are those who use templates and the feed content /links going to the respective product owner site (ofcourse with an affilate id). Many good sites with original content also got affected as the content to link ratio was more on the affiliate side. With Google's Panda 2.0 update, thin affiliate sites die a slow death over time.
