Microsoft Sun Partnership for Search!
Here is the complete news from Reuters:
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp said on Monday that it reached a Web search deal with Sun Microsystems Inc, the latest partnership struck by Microsoft aimed at chipping away at the dominance of Google Inc.
As part of this agreement, users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser who download Sun's Java technology platform will be given the option to also download the MSN Toolbar from where users can directly access the company's search engine.
Earlier this year, Microsoft also reached an agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co, the world's largest personal computer maker, to place a toolbar on new PCs in the United States and Canada starting in January.
"This deal will expose Live Search to millions more Internet users and drive increased volume for our search advertisers," said Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Audience Business at Microsoft, in a statement.
Striking distribution deals are one part of Microsoft's strategy to close the gap on market leader Google. Microsoft said competition for these types of deals is intense and that the company had to outbid several rivals for the Sun deal.
Sun said the Java platform sits on more than 800 million personal computers around the world, or on 91 percent of Internet-connected PCs worldwide. The Java Runtime Environment is downloaded tens of millions times every month, Sun said.
Google's U.S. Web search market share reached 63 percent in August versus a 19.6 percent for Yahoo Inc and 8.3 percent for Microsoft, according to comScore.

Top 4 Traps by Fake SEO's and Search Marketers
1. Guaranteed inclusion in Google
The most killer line you can observe in most of the so-called Great SEO's in any part of the world.
Some say we will make your site listed in Google's Search engine ( some go beyond and say we will do it for Yahoo! and MSN too.+ 100000000 other search engines)
Remember the term inclusion ( means your site is there in the search engine's index) and ranking ( get top positions for targetted keywords) are totally different and used to confuse the potential client.
The fact is if you have a site , Google will be crawling it as per DNS (Domain Name Server) Updates. Most of the webmasters or net surfers dont know the fact that Google is also an Authorized Domain Registrar, meaning that it has the power to search and crawl the WHOIS database as per wish.
There is a concept of "Sandbox" with search engine (can assure for Google), which may delay the indexing of the site for some time, a new site therefore does not show the instant it is registered.
If your site is still not indexed you can submit a Google Sitemap via Google Webmaster tools.
2. Top 10 Ranking in 24 Hours
Is it a magic trick? well read the complete story first before following these SEO gurus. They have some "special" terminology for that and also have some "conditions", which you will come to know only after you pay.
I have checked with some sites:
One says, the top ranking you will get is for the keyword " Pravin Shivarkar is the best SEO in India". When asked about 24 hours ... well they say, they will submit the site and then "influence" the search engines to rank me for the keyword ; well is it a keyword anyway ;)
One site goes beyond the logical ( Sorry....) imagination limit to say that, they are not talking about the organic ranking, they mean the top ranking is for the Sponsored results ( generally we get on the right hand bar in google) and they will rank your site ( here the really mean a paid advertisement)
3. Do you want guaranteed search engine ranking on Google, Yahoo , MSN?
Who will say no, unless and until he dont know why it is all about ...
The advertisement copy DO NOT Say which ranking, what rank to be exact.
We might have seen for years that if you link a particular site via n number of backlinks ( one way linking) then it is considered that the site is important by Trust vote, which some Black Hat SEO's do try to experiment or spam.
4. Guaranteed 100000000 visitors !!!
If you dont want to know who is coming from which site, or you want to show your client the sudden "Growth" that has incurred because of your "Magical" SEO techniques yesterday , this can be an ideal situation to be in with your money running out of your pocket...........
There are many "businessmen" who buy 1000+ domains and put some "engine" to show some data on each of those "websites". So do employ people (Data entry operators) to add ( copy and paste) content on these sites. Now most of them are directories with whatever subject in this world you can imagine of. So if you are selling for a washing soap and are getting visits from college library sites ( well can be good no doubt) are you expecting any sales after that?
Its all about asking exact questions in life and while dealing with Online Search Optimizers and Marketers!

Viacom Gains Access To Users, Google Adds Privacy Link
Last week Viacom won a major decision in its $1 Billion lawsuit with Google that forces the search engine giant to hand over private information about YouTube users. The ruling states that Google must transfer terabytes of data to Viacom that includes user names and IP addresses. Google argued unsuccessfully that the privacy information should not be turned over to Viacom.
The basis for the lawsuit filed by Viacom alleges that the most popular content being posted and viewed on YouTube is material that Viacom owns. The company argued successfully for the information to be turned over in order to track who is posting material and which users are watching what.
The ruling appears to have rattled Google, and the company recently made an addition to its notoriously sparse homepage: Privacy. Any user who uses Google's search engine has been sure to notice the lack of extraneous information on the page. Until this week, there was no mention of privacy. Now, at the bottom of the page, users can click on a link to take them to the Google Privacy Center.

Flash SEO possible !!
Gradually it has been said to achieve partial success, but it was a guess work how much and how many Flash files are really been "read" by a search engine crawler.
Now things have improved, One gud news for the Search Analysts is here :-------------
Adobe announced Tuesday that Google and Yahoo are adding search capabilities that will enable users to look inside the content of files encoded in Adobe's Flash file format — SWF
The content inside SWF files has heretofore been ignored by the search engine giants, but Adobe has worked with both companies to make sure that their search engine technology can now look inside existing and future SWF content, including text, hyperlinks, audio and video content.
"End users will be getting more accurate search results because there's a lot of information in SWF files that will now be fully indexed, including more information in Rich Internet Applications (RIAs)," said Justin Everett-Church, senior product manager for Adobe Flash Player, Platform BU.
"And content producers are now able to put Flash files online and know that they're going to bring more users through organic search. The good thing is that they don't have to do anything to enable this capability — it works on any SWF file," Everett-Church told Macworld.
Google is already beginning to offer search results including data inside Flash files, and Yahoo will follow suit with an update to its Yahoo Search engine, according to Adobe.

Have a look:
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Number-crunchers can rejoice as Google Inc offers deeper access to the underlying figures for users' Web searches, giving some insight into trends based on the relative popularity of various words.
The Internet search leader is expanding its existing Google Trends service to allow users to see underlying numerical data on the popularity of any particular search in Google's vast database of search terms, relative to others.
Google Trends was begun two years ago as an entertaining but limited way to indicate what the world is thinking about over time, at least in terms of Web searches.
Now Google is giving users the ability to search across terms in its database, instantly chart how they compare to other search terms, then export the underlying numerical data into a common spreadsheet format to compare with other data.
Google Trends (http://trends.google.com/) lets users compare demand for various search terms and see how popularity differs across geographic regions, cities or languages.

AOL storms into Social Marketing Space with Bebo buy
The acquisition gives AOL's parent company, Time Warner (TWX), access to Bebo's predominantly teen audience, as well as providing a platform to compete against the other social networks in the battle for online advertising revenue.
Web 2.0 offerings such as social networks are growing faster than their better-established online counterparts.
Launched three years ago, Bebo now boast 40 million users worldwide. Its growth is buoyed by its popularity with pre-teens and young teenagers, who have flocked to the site as older Internet users have turned to MySpace and Facebook. According to Nielsen Online, unique visits to Bebo in January topped 7.1 million, a 60% increase from the same period last year.

Blogging via SMS
Find how some of the Top Indian Bloggers manage their blogs with latest updates around...
At 21, Ludhiana management student Harjinder Singh already has a mega project in hand, albeit in a micro medium. His 160-character blog posts, punched out on his Nokia handset, instantaneously reach 57,659 Sikhs across India - all at the cost of a single SMS.
"I aim to arouse the pride of young Sikhs through my writings," says Singh, who started blogging on his phone last May. "Many of my Sikh readers voted for Ludhiana's Ishmeet Singh in Star Plus's Voice of India - and contributed to his victory," he adds.
Singh has hired two people to get him cell numbers of 200,000 Sikhs, because he wants to reach "one in ten Sikhs soon". In Delhi, Lalchung Siem, a 33-year-old Food Corporation of India employee, whips out his phone several times a day to blog in Hmar, a tribal language spoken by a small group of people in India.
His posts are sent free to 6,106 readers in the North-East by SMSGupShup, a microblogging platform. "Recently, I got an SOS call after two boys fell in a river in Saidan village, Manipur.
I flashed the SMS on my blog, and within minutes, a hundred people reached the spot, and managed to rescue one of the boys," he says. Microblogging, i.

Microsoft Bids $44.6 Billion for Yahoo
SAN FRANCISCO — Microsoft said Friday that it has made an offer to buy Yahoo for about $44.6 billion, or $31 a share, in a mix of cash and stock.
The offer represents a 62 percent premium over Yahoo's closing stock price of $19.18 on Thursday.
If consummated, the deal would redraw the competitive landscape of the Internet consumer services business, where both Microsoft and Yahoo have struggled to compete with Google.
Microsoft said the combination of the two companies would create efficiencies that would save approximately $1 billion annually. The software giant also said that it has an integration plan to include employees of both companies and intends to offer incentives to retain Yahoo employees.
What is the www going to be , say if Microsoft buys Yahoo! ( for example), what will Google do? any threat to the search giant?

Orkut Hate Clubs flourishing online..
Google and other social networks do a lot of efforts to curb such menace which will be some-day affecting the use and number of visitors; effectively reducing the online spending and income for the service provider.
A news from Techtree has something to surf on....
If you happen to hate Big B's smug face, beaming across from every other channel, or those tireless 'K's' from Ekta Kapoor's 'soap factory', you now have space to vent your emotions.
Hate communities or hate clubs are becoming increasingly popular on social networking Web sites like Google-owned Orkut.
On Orkut, the Ekta Kapoor hate club leads the pack with a membership of nearly 76,468 and counting. Followed by Himesh Reshamiya (of the nasal twang) with 33,137 members; Shah Rukh Khan with 11,179; Greg Chappell with 7,659; yes, Mahatma Gandhi with 6,647; General Musharraf with 1,362; and the Big B with 1,410.
Ironically, while the Father of the Nation boasts a thousands-strong hate club, his killer, Nathuram Godse, does not even warrant a mention on Orkut or Facebook.
Psychiatrist Sameer Parikh explains that people possess a certain amount of hatred, dislikes, and complexities, and they get a chance to express these on such communities and groups. However, Parikh says, too much thought should not be dispensed on this entire phenomenon.
Yet, in recent times, concerns have been raised over certain communities for hurting social sentiments. So much so that the social networking sites themselves are opting to play safe on such issues.
A Google spokesperson voiced the view that they take abuse of Orkut very seriously, and are constantly developing new tools to review inappropriate content on the site.
Orkut users too can report content to reviewers by clicking on the 'report as bogus' button. Recently, a priority reporting tool has been introduced for reporting serious aberrations on the site.
A news article from MSN shows something like that, here the target is Dogs and those who hate them ( may be due to personal reasons or social) are observed using hate as a medium to discuss the feelings.
Drop them from building tops, run them over with your car - are just some of the ways to kill dogs that Orkut's canine-hating members suggest while socialising online
Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has now complained to the police.
Peta accused Orkut, the social networking site, of promoting cruelty to animals and has demanded action against it by cyber cells of the government.
Peta has written to the Mumbai police and complained that among topics discussed on Orkut community sites was "I hate dogs".
Here organizations like PETA come into picture to save the interest of the pets.

Yahoo's news search tool unveiled!
Checkout the little drop down arrow below the search box.
A new addition showing the suggested additional keywords ( popular words or keyphrases) in the lines of an online suggestion tool.

Great thing to implement, good work.
There are some effects to that
1. Now organic listings go further down.
If you consider the dropped being for the keyword "seo india" atleast 3 results are being sacrificed in organic ranking.
2. More competition for the paid listing as its showing less number of ads @ the top.
3. If you can manage #1 ranking organically, you can enjoy multiplied visitors as compared to the past and the second one might go in the next fold of the page, which rarely is visited by 60% visitors (approx calc.)

Microsoft new Office Live Workspace Free
Good news for Microsoft office file users: At last(?) Microsoft has decided to enter into the free online option with its MS Office on web suite.Announcing the entry of Office Live Workspace, a new Web-based feature of Microsoft Office into the arena, MS is now a challenge taker with the future on either side.
Using Office Live Workspace users may be able to store as many as 1000 documents online but DOES NOT ALLOW to create and/or edit the docs within a webpage.
The step taken by Microsoft is after careful evaluation and recognizing the threat posed by the fast expanding online environment specially in the light of Google Docs.
So Long Live Open Source !!
